The Brooklyn Botanic Garden: Who said that NYC was forever dead?

A few Sundays ago, I went on a “long” 15 minute drive to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. The best of the cherry blossoms was gone, but this oasis in the heart of Brooklyn still offered a much-needed reminder of the beauty and light of the outdoors and nature. A fair number of people also showed up – people who perhaps like me have been mostly confined to their homes since Covid hit a year ago.

The weather was perfect and inviting so a sweater afforded the perfect comfort. Y’all know how tricky it is to dress in May – you never want to over, or underdress. Walking through the garden was therapeutic and energizing at the same time. Just a year ago, we all sat and wondered when we would be able to enjoy these simple moments again. It’s indeed delightful that that change that we hoped and prayed for is here. The virus has been contained, the city is reopening, and things are getting back to normal like they once were. Who said that New York was forever dead?

As I write this post, I’ll set a new challenge for myself this summer: to explore at least one outdoor site, or to do an interesting outdoor activity each week. Considering that we’ll be clad in heavy layers again before you know it, I’ll try not to let summer 2021 just go by. While last year was a beast, I’ve got plans for you 2021.
