I walked from Brooklyn to Manhattan, and back to Brooklyn for the first time. Ok, let’s be real…I walked across the Williamsburg bridge to Manhattan. It took about 30 minutes (each way). It was on a sunny yet cold Sunday, and the perfect escape from my home where I spend most of my time these days.
For the art lovers, there’s endless graffiti to behold. For the architecture lover, you will be entranced by the detail and craftmanship. I love the best of both worlds and the pink bars and rails also offer a nice contrast to the rugged and industrial feel of the bridge.
This trek was therapeutic and necessary. Not too long ago, we were advised to shelter in place, so adventures like these make one appreciate the simple things in life even more. I challenge you to embrace and reclaim life as we once had it. Whatever the task is – it could be running (like Forrest Gump did), volunteering to help someone in need, or just living and embracing every moment. When I walked, albeit masked—by virtue of the new norm—I felt renewed, and I felt revived. I felt hope for the day when we will look back in history and marvel at how far we’ve come. And, I hope that day is not too far away.
