Early into the pandemic last year, I decided to try my hand at indoor gardening. After all, I’m mostly home and I can give them all the care and attention they need. What could possibly go wrong? Well, things were going well until my plants slowly started to fall, one by one.
Some loved ones that I’ve lost include my beloved bird of paradise, and fiddle leaf fig. I tried everything, but the indoor climate was perhaps less than optimal. Just my theory. Amidst this loss, there was a sliver of hope. Three of my plants have pushed through during what was a tough period for the world in general. Still standing, are my 2 snake plants, and my monstera.
The photo above of my Monstera plant was taken in May of last year, a few weeks after I bought it. The stems are all upright, and the leaves look bright and lush. I wasn’t sure what the journey would be like but it proved resilient, to say the least.
Below is what my Monstera plant looks like today, 9 months post purchase. She’s a survivor! Need I say more? She has grown wildly. I did not stake her as I wanted to let nature take its course. It is still pushing out new leaves to my delight.
I will do another update on its birthday in April to see how things have progressed. For now, I’m confident in my ability to keep a Monstera Borsigiana plant alive (I think that is the variety I have), so I’m going to try my luck with a Monstera Deliciosa next.
