As a member of the 4C clan, our hair-type is characterized as coarse, kinky, coily and cottony with fine, fragile strands, lending itself to breakage and tangling. Is there any way to simplify hair management and perhaps eliminate some of these common issues? Are there products and techniques that can help us in this fight? What's really cool is that when I thought I knew everything about my hair, I recently made new discoveries that keeping to myself is not even an option. When there's good news, let it spread like wildfire.
(Gorgeous 4C Naturals)
So I was battling with severe hair breakage which has seriously derailed my hair growth efforts. I recently tried a new product which has worked wonders for these strands by secretly indicating that my hair wasn't adequately moisturized. In fact, this is the second time around I'm using this magic potion and I'm absolutely in love. Not sure what was different this time, perhaps it was my technique, but I'm able to give this 4C hair curls, sheen and moisture. And guess what's the good part? it lasts all day.....and all night too! Since $5.99 is all you need for this catch, let me start creating a stockpile.
The product that I'm gushing about is Shea Butter Miracle, buttery creme hair moisturizer by African Pride. In the article "10 Things I've Learnt About My Hair", I explained that creme based products add too much saturation which eventually causes a loss in curl definition for me. So I've signed off of those products for the most part until I decided to revamp my methods. I'm amazed that I'm making discoveries about my hair when I thought I knew it all.
(On the left is photo of my hair before I started using the buttery creme moisturizer. The right pic shows Day11 hair with this moisturizer).
I used a small amount of the buttery creme in addition to some olive oil polishing serum/sweet almond oil to set my bantu knots at nights. The result is soft and supple curls that I cant keep my hands out.
I didn't know that my hair could last beyond a week after a wash, while still maintaining the capacity to be styled. My hair in the pics is day 11/ day 12 hair. Being able to maintain curls at day 11 is real hair talk right here. As I shared earlier, serious hair breakage is the culprit for no visible growth of my strands. However, this product has added so much moisture, and I've noticed a reduction in overall hair loss since I've started to use it. The truth is, I've been gentler on my hair too. My daily styling would usually include me tugging at the ends to remove broken hair, however, I've definitely revised that.
These oils work wonders for my hair: (Olive oil smoother and polishing serum and sweet almond oil).
When you can rock curls at Day 12, this is a joyous hair moment that calls for big celebration. Rocking winning hair below, (day 12.)
So what's the take home lesson here? Your hair type is your hair type. PERIOD. Understanding and accepting your hair are key to success on this journey. Who knew that I could achieve curls for these strands, which are at times resistant with a mind of their own, tangling, shrinking and breaking like nobody's business? And to be able to achieve effortless curls at day 12, proves the endless potential of this crowning glory. Love it, Own it and Rock it!
