If you were to ask me what art form can effectively transform a mundane canvas, dramatically bringing it to life, I would gleefully assert, "Makeup Art" of course. I love MAKEUP! My multitude of makeup images can unhesitatingly attest to this claim. I've always been a huge art enthusiast and there is a resultant feeling of great delight when I infuse this art into my makeup. For me, makeup is more than hungrily drooling over the next limited edition MAC product, or chronically visiting the nearest beauty supply to satisfy any ongoing beauty fixes. It is a medium to outwardly express my (sometimes crazy) artistic energy, sensibilities, and emotions. I rarely have a vision of the final outcome; some of which are fortuitous at best. What inspires my makeup style? Just about every or anything. My style is inspired by some of the designs on my fabrics, elements in nature, art, and of course, the work of other great artists. Each day I'm faced with a sanguine enthusiasm to raise the bar, dismantle it, and elevate it even higher. I will continue to conjure my wildest imaginations, lending inspiration to those with artistic lens.
I vividly remember how I've always been drawn to art as a child. If you wanted to see me ecstatically jump for joy, give me a new coloring book with an accompanying box of Crayola 64 ct. crayons. I have that and I'm happy. The thing is, mastering the use of those wax crayons required a certain degree of pro-coloring skills, and pressing too hard would result in a thick uneven application. As a perfectionist, I wanted to get it right. I placed great effort in trying to color inside the lines and I wouldn't dare escape those boundaries. What I didn't know, was the varied possibilities that this phenomenon known as art entailed. I thought that art was restricted to paper or canvas. Dead wrong! I would later learn about digital art, culinary art, architecture, sculpting, and of course, makeup art (you get the picture). The truth is, I appreciate all forms of art and I'm usually transfixed when I visit art museums or see cool works from different artists. One of my faves is the Metropolitan Museum of Art which boasts a wide collection from ancient art to contemporary art. Art is all around us, I see it every day and I love to exude a certain kind of energy through artistic elements in my makeup creations.
My Makeup Style
My makeup style is obviously colorful, dramatic, and artistic. I also love to incorporate glitter and rhinestones at times, because I'm a "girly-girl" at heart with a love for beaming elements which add that extra burst of energy. I feel like I'm slowly going through a metamorphosis where I'm starting to incorporate more smoky and neutral looks. The beauty of this art form is that you can be in a perpetual creative mode. With each "brush stroke," there lies the potential to concoct a unique picture. Consequently, you'll be able to do what makes you happy. There's no need to conform to any mold or model. Be You! Be Different!
