"Viva Las Vegas!" - My Adventures in Sin City
By Alecia James September 28, 2013
After what felt like an unending plane ride, with a connecting flight to LAX compounded by an unbearable two hour layover, my patience had already worn thin. This fueled my anticipation even more. I needed to get to my destination. Vegas where are you? When the airplane wheels finally touched down on Vegas soil, a loud applause erupted and sudden cheer filled the entire cabin. We were in "Vegas Baby."
First Stop: Monte Carlo Resort and Casino.
This would be my home for the next five days. I fell in love immediately upon entering their grand lobby. People were checking in as I was, others were just going about seemingly consumed in their own consciousness that they're chilling in sin city. After obtaining my room key, I excitedly headed straight to my room while keenly absorbing the high energy that filled the air. I really didn't know what to expect. I've seen many Vegas based movies in the past, and perhaps should have re-watched "The Hangover" prior to leaving home, but this is one of the many moments where I can truly say that seeing is believing.
Living in NYC, I'm no stranger to the glitz and glamour, the bright lights that illuminate the Manhattan skyline, or the jaw-dropping scenery of Times Square, (the most visited tourist destination in the world). But the sights and sounds of Vegas are something to behold. The memory is still forefront in my mind, to know that I left there approximately a month ago.
There was a total of five in our crew, and these ladies were just amazing, a huge part of why the visit was a success. My first night in sin-city saw a visit to Tao nightclub at "The Venetian," a magnificent compound overflowing with grandeur. Admittedly, the scenery closely aligns with the imagery that our television screens and filmmakers depict. A party packed with dancing and screaming patrons all reveling in the feeling of gaining admission to one of the hottest clubs on the strip, not minding the overpriced drinks and music that exceeded legal decibels for one's eardrums. Luckily we were on the guest list so we were able to gain a coveted spot within the walls of the great Tao, splendidly decked out in its artsy Asian-inspired decor.
Our first night was just filled of pure awesomeness and was a perfect induction into one of the most famous and anticipated spots on earth.
