Mini Escape to Central Park.
By Alecia James
Amid the majestically soaring skyscrapers, yellow cabs speedily buzzing by, people frantically scurrying to and fro, street vendors, screeching tires, blaring car horns, sirens aggressively competing for your auditory attention and amid the concrete jungles of NYC, is an area that unpretentiously boasts "oasis in the desert" status.
Not only is it one of the largest and most mind-boggling green spaces in Manhattan, it is also the home to several lakes and picturesque bridges, a large collection of plant and bird species, a zoo, skating rink, an amphitheater, and an expanse that allows uninhibited views of the beautiful blue sky above (just to name a few). It was also the site of my photo shoot with Clay Horne of Clay Horne Photography. Yes, I'm talking about Central Park. When you're all of 843 acres, designated as a National Historic Landmark and are home to 38 million visitors each year, saying you're magnificent, borders on modesty.
This post is really a throwback since this shoot was executed back in June, about a week or two prior to the launch of this website. I guess I was caught up in the anxiety of prepping for our launch, trying not to miss a beat, so looking back, I can see why the outfit choice is deemed questionable. I went for a gray, high-low dress; the style I could work with, albeit appearing to swallow me in some areas, but the monochromatic gray hue did very little to complement my deep skin tone.
But I had already escaped to the gorgeous mecca of Central Park and I wouldn't dare depart until I had accomplished my task of capturing some memorable images. With the assistance and expertise of Mr. Clay Horne and a little enhancement with MAC's "candy yum yum," .......... well, you be the judge.
We took over the Pink Bank Bridge for this segment.
Dalehead Arch in the backdrop.
There's no denying that NYC is one of the most interesting places on the globe. With a spectacular treasure like Central Park, who wouldn't want to just escape to this enchanting space?
